For nearly six decades the company has managed to build strategic partnerships with many of the world’s most reputable companies, whilst, establishing sound relations across a broad range of trade channels in Kuwait, resulting in it gaining the trust and confidence of Kuwait’s consumers. We have a brief story on the start of MNH and the businesses they are in today.
The culmination of the Second World War and the commencement of oil exports in 1946 signified the beginning of a new era of dramatic changes in both the social and economic development of Kuwait. The founders Mohamed Naser Al-Hajery & his cousin Ibrahim Al-Hajery, through their foresight, anticipated the opportunities & considerable impact of these events on consumer demand and as a result established The Kuwaity Drug Store in Souk Al Dakhli in 1946.
The principal focus of the business was pharmaceuticals and personal care products and The Kuwaity Drug Store was the first company to introduce the life saving drug “Penicillin” to the Kuwait market.
The original success of the business paved the way for the opening of its first retail pharmacy, “Kuwait Pharmacy” in New Street, in the heart of Old Kuwait city. The relentless desire to serve the consumers of Kuwait provided the platform for the company’s further expansion and subsequent diversification into new areas of home care products, food and perfumes & cosmetics.
In 1972, due to its considerable growth, the company was restructured under the name of Mohamed Naser Al-Hajery & Sons Ltd, in order to more effectively focus on its core business areas of pharmaceuticals, medical & scientific equipment, consumer, food products and perfumes & cosmetics. Furthermore, they were able to take advantage of new opportunities that were becoming apparent and which resulted in the establishment of new affiliated businesses - Greenfields Agriculture Co. (Landscape & agricultural contracting), HYDROTEK Engineering Co. (water & waste water equipment and contracting), Subhan Manufacturing Co. - (Manufacturing of shampoos & creams), Al Enjazat Kuwait General Trading & Contracting Co. - (Real Estate investments).
MNH divisions include pharmaceuticals, perfumes and cosmetics, consumer goods, food and restaurant divisions, health and electronics and medical and scientific equipments.
Pharmaceuticals Division and medical and scientific equipments MNH ranks among top of the local distributors in term of growth and market share in both private and tender business. Besides gsk, MNH represents very well known Pharmaceutical Agencies i.e. Novartis Consumer Health SA, Ferring Pharma, Leo Pharma, Hikma Pharma, Fresinus Kabi… to name a few. Owns and operates 13 Retail Pharmacies with plans to expand this number in 2009 with additional 2 pharmacies (already under construction) and same expansion every year for the next 5 years. We work hard to have the best locations to support our suppliers share in the market. MNH supports Healthcare of the country by participating in local exhibitions, conferences and seminars in order to strengthen their relation with the healthcare authorities, at the same time promote their Principals image in the market.
In line with the company’s historic presence in the medical field and given the increasing investment in healthcare, this division represents an important and growing sector of our activities. A wide range of high quality and reliable products are supplied to private hospitals & clinics, medical laboratories, the Ministry of Health as well as retail pharmacies.
A highly professional sales organization focuses on the sales and marketing of personal care and home care products through a wide range of distribution channels covering, Co-ops and all their branches, private supermarkets, pharmacies, wholesalers, grocery stores and hairdressing saloons. MNH was one of the first companies to supply Co-ops in the early sixties and as a result has established strong trade relationships and achieved major market shares in a number of product categories.
