The Better Pen from the ‘Maison de Haute Ecriture’

The Swiss company Caran d’Ache sells writing utensils for the price you can buy a decent car. Their pens are made out of gold, diamonds, pearls and other fine materials. I’d be too worried running around with a pen like this, or even keeping it in my drawer. Caran d’Ache also makes this straightforward but fine ballpoint pen. It is made out of steel and has a replaceable ink cartridge. I bought it on my last trip to Europe for less than fifteen Euros. This retractable pen is good for everyday use, without having to deal with the frustration of the often malfunctioning plastic alternative. I wonder how many poorly made pens end up in the trash, long before the ink runs out.

Pashley Guv’nor

Handbuilt in England, Pashley bikes have acquired a great reputation for design, quality and (paramount for us) style. A path racer from the 1930s, the Guv’nor was one of the most unique bikes ever made - and is now available again - this time with modern components. It features a Pashley built Reynolds 531 diamond frame (in 20.5, 22.5 and 24.5 inch sizes), with relaxed style forks, Brooks B17 Titanium saddle, drop North Road handlebars - with leather grips, a single speed rear wheel, with 28 inch gold lined black alloy rims and light tyres being used front and back. The Guv’nor is also available as a 3 speed model.

Fast, long, and definitely eye-catching. Because sometimes it’s not only about getting to your destination, sometimes it’s all about the journey too.

Fine Stationery

There’s no point in writing anything down unless you’re writing it on good paper. That’s what we think anyway, and we’re sure you’ll agree.

Some of the very finest stationery is available from Smython of London. Shown here are a couple of their leather-bound diaries and organisers (because we’re shunning all things electrical these days).

Smythson provide timeless classic on which to record our musings and essential jottings.
