Dar Al Funoon
Dec. 5, 2011 Ghadah Alkandari - PrettyGreenBullet The Second Exhibition Opening at 7pm - 9pm on Monday 5th December 2011 One Night Only

An exhibition celebrating the second year of Ghadah Alkandari’s blog PrettyGreenBullet, this one-night show will showcase paintings and drawings, as well as everyday notes, doodles and sketches done by the artist over the last year. Because of the vagaries of Alkandari’s mind, even she can’t be sure what the final outcome of the show will be. The nature of her daily evolution and devolution of ideas form the basis of the PrettyGreenBullet experience, and this exhibition, the nutshell.

Jeffar Khaldi
Artificial Colors
12 December 2011 - 5 January 2012

Artist statement: My work usually takes view of social, cultural issues , fused with political undertones. My perspective on the world is formed through conflicted cultures, visceral histories, collective memories and bleak realities.

Over the years, my work has absorbed a vast span of influences, reflecting my ongoing devotion to my craft and engagement with the world at large, and often taking journeys into the past .

It is stubbornly opinionated, and thrillingly alive with eclectic symbolism and imagery - from Arabic calligraphy and iconography to mythical creatures and fantasy scenes in dynamic fusions.

However, the most immediately noticeable thing about my work is the constant shift and evolution or my artistic focus and the urgency to find new way to look at things and a new way to interpret them.

Khalid Farhan
January 8-26, 2012

Farhan Born in 1977 in a town called Muharraq, historic town of Kingdom of Bahrain.

The artistic experience of the sculptor Khalid Farhan integrates the negative and the positive in some of his works, and their relation with the making of plants. His works of art depends on the wood, stone and brass and they are characterised by the making of spheres and hemisphere is apparent in his woks which means the duality between two persons of among other group.

He considers the scientist “Freud” the key to his sculpture works since he is inspired by Freud’s vision which state that the straight lines stand for the man and the lenient (wavy) lines for the woman. Khalid Farhan is characterised by his abstract style and the simplicity of the idea impression.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. This event is called TEDxSafat, where x = independently organized TED event. At the TEDxSafat event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including this, are self-organized.

Mission
To create a platform where we can share and discuss ideas that have the potential, power and promise to make a difference in our lives, in our community, in the world and in Kuwait.

You really shouldn’t miss this. For more info email info@way-com.com
