The S/S 2013 Men’s Collection by Paul & Shark is marked by a modern design which holds to the chic marine style of the brand. Salvatore Ferragamo
Spring - Summer 2013 Men’s Collection
Flashes of colour in an art gallery. A man, passionately devoted to beauty, who lives in a metropolis with dynamic radiance, takes in the energy of Las Angeles and its cultural syncretism. With subtle eccentricity he wears clothes imbued with the colours of a David Hockney canvas, like a crisp cut ultra-lightweight cotton blazer with contrasting piping.
Underneath, he wears a loose-fitting, pictorial-effect printed shirt with cotton jacquard tie over carrot-cut trousers. On his feet pop running shoes, either colour blocked or in a necktie micro-pattern.
Dynamic yet sophisticated, he wears full-colour mirror-lens glasses as he crosses the city on a hi-tech bicycle, a boldly coloured monochrome watch with a grosgrain strap secured on his wrist. A two-tone, double-sided fabric trench with heat-sealed piping is effortlessly thrown over his shoulder.

Franck Mesnel

As a key member of the French rugby union side from the late 1980s to the mid-90s, Mesnel gained his experience the hard way. Then in 1987, with typical Gallic flair combined with a touch of panache, he put this experience to good use and established, in partnership with other fine French rugby internationals, the Eden Park label.

What kind of reactions have you received from the first season?
I’ve had such an incredible reaction since we launched my bodywear range back in February with H&M. The response worldwide has been overwhelming. The launch was such a memorable time for me, from the party in London to the commercial shown during the Super Bowl in the US. Since the launch, it’s been so great to read all the comments from fans on my Facebook page, who always let me know exactly what they think about the bodywear range. Luckily, they love it!

Alfred Dunhill September 2012
Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection Notes
Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own; and from morning to night, as from the cradle to the grave, it is but a succession of changes so gentle and easy that we can scarcely mark their progress.” Charles Dickens
As with the wind and the sea relentlessly crafting the cliff face; as with the calming effect of the Spring sunshine punctuating the end of a cold Winter; as with the fresh breeze of Autumn blowing the leaves from the boughs of great trees; as with the rising might of mass migration as instinct engages flocks of birds to take to the skies and head south for the Winter, the constant cycle of the seasons continue to form their reassuring foundation to life.

Paul Smith September 2012
Spring Summer 13 Preview
Paul Smith looks ahead to summer with a collection that brings a spark to the senses by celebrating modern masculine elegance, bold colour and sharp, refined tailoring.
Colour is key and present at every level. Every shade of the spectrum is used from pale pastels to dusty blues, pinky taupes, and deep reds through to bright, hot, vibrant colour. Brought together, simple elements impact strongly against luxurious blacks and prints of scissors and manipulated roses.
Tailoring is smart and modern; jackets, slim and unfussy, have shoulders that are structured to give definition, but are not big or bulky. Trousers are pleated and pegged, with a stitched in stay press to accentuate the silhouette.

Vicomte A.
Arthur De Soultrait
The unique brand of Vicomte A., with its bright and daring colors along with its impeccable finishing, will open this month at the Avenues Mall, Kuwait. Men’s Passion decided to meet with the mastermind behind this exclusive brand, Arthur De Soultrait, in order to learn more on the brand, and gain insight on why he has chosen Kuwait as his next franchising endeavor.
MP: What does the name Vicomte A. represent?
Arthur: Vicomte is a title in French aristocracy- a small yet rare title to hold. I have been fortunate enough to have this name, and my full name is Vicomte Arthur De Soultrait, so the brand has been taken as a shortened version of my title of Vicomte Arthur. Consequently, the crown above the brand name is also representative of the crown of a Vicomte.

Gucci
Gentlemen’s Club
Flamboyant, vain, and eccentric. With high-tech workmanship and Brit-style pairings. Distinctive graphic hints in check fabrics and pied-de-poule. Reminiscent of noble sports. For spring summer 2012, the Gucci man establishes a new sartorial intelligentsia that revisits the posh world of Savile Row during the Sixties and Seventies. “I envisioned a Gentlemen’s Club,” explains Creative Director Frida Giannini, “populated by, aristocrats, dandies and singers, noblemen and rock stars – all with a love for playing with tradition.”
Silhouette
Slim, precise, toned with an aristo-sport attitude. Sartorial jackets tailored for rolled shoulders, ignited with a competitive spirit that plays into the details. Hailing from equestrian references. Suede shirt collars, linings in rider rouge, pockets with contrasting trim. Hooded parkas thermosealed with leather. Unlined blazers with suede detailing.

Famed for its original prints and inventive spirit, Marni is one of fashion’s most-loved labels, and its Founder and Creative Director Consuelo Castiglioni has created for H&M a spring collection for both women and men which capture the essence of Marni.
Marni’s collection for H&M has all the freedom and experimentation for which the label is renowned, with all-over prints in strong colours all intended to be worn together in layers that both match and clash. For women, the colours are vivid and the prints are bold, be they African inspired or simpler colour blocks. The silhouettes are all Marni staples, with full pleated skirts, dresses, cropped trousers and jacquard knit, and fabrics range from silk to crisp cotton poplin. To finish the complete look the collection also includes jewellery, shoes, bags and scarves.

Paul Smith
Paul Smith menswear for Spring Summer 2011, ‘Cosmic Rock’ is a detailed, directional collection that references the beginning of Paul’s design career in the late 60’s / early ‘70’s and the inspiration he felt during this brave new rock era, watching musicians Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix mix new clothes with vintage. The elements that excited Paul most from this era; surreal galaxy prints, occult signs, batik, military costumes and vibrant cosmic inspired colours have been translated to create looks in new relaxed silhouettes using modern fabrics.
I have gone back to the beginning of my design career at a time when the rock musicians I was going to see dressed in a bizarre mix of new clothes and vintage. The likes of Mitch Mitchell, the drummer for Jimi Hendrix, would wear a jacket made from old curtains, or Led Zeppelin wearing printed clothes featuring influences from the occult or from the constellations.

Ermenegildo Zegna
Primavera Estate 2011
If the Spring-Summer Ermenegildo Zegna collection were a city, it would have parks and skyscrapers, museums and trendy bars, sea and countryside. Like a cosmopolitan, sophisticated and somewhat eccentric gentleman who mixes the rigour of aesthetics with touches of studied casual nonchalance. A truly European gentleman.
On the catwalk of the first fashion show of its second century, Zegna discovers a new freedom through mixing styles, clean colours and orderly patterns all weaved from precious ultra -light yarns. Powder blue, orange and tangerine, sage green, cornflower and navy blues, brown coupled with lit neutrals, intertwined wefts and graphic prints.

Loro Piana
Exclusive - The world’s best sunglass lenses
N.P.E.L.P. (Neodymium, Praseodymium and Erbium and LP for Loro Piana) lenses are the result of a collaboration with Barberini, acknowledged as the world’s leading producer of optical glass solar protection lenses. Versace SS2011 Men’s Collection
A glance back to the Versace archives. Iconic images from Bruce Weber’s photography for the house of the late Eighties.
The Versace SS2011 menswear collection is all about modern heroes - it has been designed for a new generation of fashionable men, individuals with no fear of standing out from the crowd and possessing a strong, personal and original attitude.
The suits reshape the silhouette, with fitted jackets, slightly shortened sleeves and super-slim trousers rolled up at the ankle.
The leather jackets slightly recall the sexy side of the ‘80 rockabilly, with fringes of leather and micro studs. The same concept has been applied to the belts, which feature jewelled buckles.

Men’s Trends
Fall/Winter 2011-2012
Earlier this year, Men’s Fashion Week presented shows in NYC, London, Paris and Milan. Over the next two issues, we will be reviewing the prominent trends that were noticed on the runways. This month, we take a look at the first three trends for the upcoming Fall/Winter season: fur, plaid, and ‘color pops.’
Fur
This season saw a rising popularity in fur coats, detailed trimmings and shearling linings for Mens’ Fall/Winter 2011 collections. For both genders, this fabric has historically been valued for its utilitarian value prior to its value as a luxurious commodity. Considered a staple component of the Russian traditional wardrobe, fur has long served as a durable, insulating fabric in such cold climates.

The CH Carolina Herrera summer collection for men takes its cue from the Jacques Deray movie The Swimming Pool. Bursting with color, a collection fit for a man enjoying a peaceful vacation at a villa in the Saint Tropez area.
The CH Carolina Herrera summer collection for men takes its cue from the Jacques Deray movie The Swimming Pool. Bursting with color, a collection fit for a man enjoying a peaceful vacation at a villa in the Saint Tropez area.
A light fit with comfort in mind is achieved thanks to fresh fabrics such as cotton and linen. Nylon is the only exception and comes into play in the range of outer garments.
The blue hues of the sea color the collection, from sea blue to navy and turquoise. Lawn green brings freshness and an acidic touch to flavor a collection which also embraces natural tones, ranging from sand to taupe.
Fine tailoring is a classic trait of the CH Carolina Herrera man. Pure combinations remain unbroken except for the occasional flash of a pure silk tie to ensure an impeccable finish.

1. Honor thy tailor - even the best suits need altering. In men’s fashion this is probably the most important detail that is not always adhered to. Pants

Alfred Dunhill
Autumn/Winter 2010/11
2010 sees the 80th Anniversary of dunhill’s global launch of the Japanese lacquer Namiki pen - widely believed to be the most exquisite writing instrument ever created. The cementing of the dunhill-Namiki relationship in 1930 is almost a ‘Boy’s Own’ tale from that period. A story of exploration, travel and adventure undertaken by two men - Clement Court, the extraordinary general manager of dunhill’s Rue de la Paix store in Paris, and Setsuji Wada, the Japanese ‘Maki-e’ lacquer artist and the representative of the Namiki company abroad. It is their overland journey from Europe to Japan - taking in Russia, Siberia, Mongolia and Korea along the way - and that spirit of travel and adventure from the period that has been the inspiration for Kim Jones’ Alfred Dunhill menswear collection this season.

Cartier
Cartier at the 25th Biennale des Antiquaires Paris, Grand Palais: 15 - 22 September 2010. The Art of Sculpture, interview of Philippe Nicolas, Cartier Maître d’Art
You’ve described yourself professionally as an “engraver and sculptor of hard and fine stones.” You also speak of glyptics, the art of engraving stones. What got you interested in this job?
I always wanted to be a sculptor. (…) This fascination led me to the glass-engraving program at the Ecole Boulle. In 1976, I integrated these studies with the fine arts program in order to be trained in engraving on hard and precious stones. Today I have been a glyptician for 25 years, a term I prefer over “engraver sculptor” because it implies an artistic dimension to which I am very much attached.

Sartorially Speaking
Dr. Ali Al-Sulaimi, sharp dressed man
You know the feeling - you’re in the mood to buy a suit, you’ve tried them all on, there’s one you really like bit it’s not quite right, and nothing really fits the bill (or even your body) quite the way you want it to. But you buy the one closest to what you were looking for, and then when you get home you regret it. Wouldn’t it have been a whole lot better if you’d given yourself time to enjoy the experience of getting a bespoke suit made expressly for yourself? That’s what Dr. Ali Al-Sulaimi does, and as soon as he walks into the room it’s clear it’s all worth the extra time it takes.

Sir Paul Smith
Britain’s most successful designer
Born in Beeston, England to a draper father, a life in the ‘rag-trade’ was the furthest thing from the teenage Paul Smith’s mind - he dreamt only of success as a professional racing cyclist. There’s little doubt that he would have raced at the highest level - he had already proved himself as a junior. A serious cycling accident at 17 put paid to these dreams, and he spent the next six months in hospital recovering. Time spent recuperating in the company of art students led Sir Paul towards the fashion business, although he candidly admits that it is clothes that are his love, and not fashion, writes Simon Balsom.

Paul Smith menswear for Spring Summer 2010 offers an elegant, modern, and proudly British collection. The collection reinterprets classic menswear and simple sports wear pieces in a fresh uncomplicated way with clean lines and relaxed shapes in a full spectrum of colours. References are made to David Byrne, the singer from the Talking Heads and David Bowie where mod meets punk.
